VIN cloning - buying a stolen car

Today at 4:55 pm, Jeff told us about VIN cloning.  That's when thieves copy the vehicle identification number, found on the dashboard, off a legitimate car and place it on a stolen car of a similar make and model. Then they re-register the car, hiding its shady history from unsuspecting buyers.

Here are a few sites that can stop that from happening:
    - Vehicle Identification Number Cloning Scams
    - Carfax (Search car history using the VIN)

Has this ever happened to you?
