Consumers unhappy about new used car sales tax

Looks like some of the KTRK Consumer Blog readers were a little upset over the new used car sales tax.  Take a look at these blog comments and emails:

    This is absolutely outrageous!!!

The tax for the vehicle was paid when someone bought it new!!!

If a car get sold four times before it becomes unsalvagable, the state get to collect the sales tax 4 times based on the book value!

I am surprised people are not up in arms about this...This will certainly change the use car market significantly.

BTW, IT'S HELL TO BE POOR! (Marvin Zindler quote)

How can I get a list of the Texas legislators that voted for the sales tax increase on used autos based on there state sponsored value?

I am very concerned about the new state law pertaining to vehicle sales tax. It wouold seem to me that a sales tax should be a tax on sales, not a tax on appraised value. If the state is truely concerned about fraud, then more restrictions should be placed upon vehicle buyers concerning proper documentation of the sale, something like a notarized bill of sale or another form of documentation. All that this measure seems to accomplish is taking more money from those people who are being honest about the thier vehicle transaction and putting into the pockets of our money hungry state legislature. Please continue looking into this story.
